Exploring Oaxaca

We suggests our guest to plan their visit to our lovely city for at least three nights/four days

Oaxaca, which is widely knwon for its bohemeian and at the same time revolutionary ambiance. It has become a spot for artists and intellectauls collide to translate ideas into actions, to make things happen.

Tourist love it, because of its numerous walking trails at the sierra norte, quaint streets, relaxed coffee shops, locally-owned shops and boutiques, colonial architecture and amazing and world-famous restaurants.

For the more actively-minded, there is quite a lot to do on and near Oaxaca City. You can visit the "Pueblos Mancomunados" for a hike or bike trip, passing and connecting to others parts of the region.

Another popular destination is the many art collectives that you can visit in the City, the churches, galleries and the festivals: Catapulta, Oaxca Film Festival and Saber del Sabor.

If you prefer a more relaxed pace, Cafe Brujula or Nuevo Mundo coffee shops are the ideal place to sit down, read a book and watch people pass by.

All in all, Oaxaca City is comprised of alluring thoughtfully-stocked galleries, colorful colonial streets that combine old and new architecture, thought-provoking people, rich culture heritage and top-notch gastronomical sphere, which make it the perfect place to wander, relax and learn something new.

Weather you are looking for a full Spanish immersion or just to learn a few lines to get by during your trip, learning Spanish in Oaxaca is a great option for people that plan to stay a couple of weeks or even months.

There are some schools that apart from thier main language program offer cultural activities, such is the case of Insitituto Cultural Oaxaca, that has a beautiful campus at the far edge of the City's Downtown.

Over the years we have work on developing tours that take people to places they wouldn’t see in the course of an ordinary vacation – places we consider to be the “real” Mexico.

Anyone wanting to discover the day of the dead through a local lens would do well to join this tour. As it will take you places beyond ordinary sight seeing and help you to see the sometimes hidden aspects of the culture.

EnVia Foundation's mission is to fight poverty in Oaxaca. They do it through the combination of three tools: education, microloans and responsible tourism. Take a tour with them and meet 6 entrepreneur women that will walk you through their business, personal experiences and how this program has impacted their lives.

If you volunteer with them, ask us for our special monthly rate for Fundacion EnVia collaborators.

We look forward to have you join us in a retreat or to host your group for a private one.

Our retreats aim to help you recharge and nourish the mind, body and spirit, while immersing in the culture, cuisine and local life of Oaxaca.

We welcome many different types of retreats, that can be tailored to accomodate your needs.
